AI Usage Across NRC Technical Training Center Projects

In support of the NRC Technical Training Center's mission-driven learning initiatives, Avyance was an early adopter of generative AI—leveraging Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, ChatGPT, and NRC's internal SimplifAI platform—to improve instructional quality while dramatically accelerating delivery across all five phases of the ADDIE methodology.

During Analysis, AI enabled rapid synthesis of stakeholder inputs, learner profiles, and performance gaps aligned to technical workforce requirements. In the Design phase, AI supported the refinement of instructional design plans, validation of learning objectives, and creation of detailed outlines and storyboards. Throughout Development, AI enhanced script refinement, on-screen text optimization, reference material development, and enabled custom image creation and editing, contributing to the delivery of two eLearning courses (16 total modules) and 10 in-person instructor-led modules. AI also supported Implementation through technical assistance and module troubleshooting and strengthened Evaluation by accelerating feedback analysis and informing iterative improvements.

With eLearning creation of scientifically robust information, Avyance developers were able to realize an 85% hours reduction in creation of technically accurate scientific visuals and learning aids. The team significantly amplified output through use of AI tools to accelerate workload and improve consistency and overall quality. The ability to incorporate more elevated memorable learning moments in content led to increased knowledge acquisition and retention on material tied directly to NRC mission impact.

A signature outcome of this work was an AI-focused instructor-led course developed and delivered as part of a learning summit for more than 30 instructional staff supporting the Technical Training Center. This module not only leveraged AI throughout its own ADDIE process, but was intentionally designed to upskill participants in using AI within their daily instructional design practices. The session explored practical AI use cases across each ADDIE phase and featured a live demonstration of generating a training course outline during the Design phase. By both employing AI to create the course and positioning AI as the subject of instruction, Avyance reinforced a scalable, future-ready learning culture—empowering TTC instructional staff to responsibly integrate AI into ongoing technical training development and delivery.
